Mary was born in Bayside, NY to Agnes and William Godfrey. She attended Bayside High School and graduated from St. Vincent’s School of Nursing in New York City. She was a loving mother and dedicated nurse who worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison, NY for many years. She and Ed raised their family in Rye, NY where she lived until her recent move to Avon, CT to be closer to some of her children and beloved grandchildren.

Mary was an active volunteer and Eucharistic Minister at the Church of the Resurrection and St. Vincent’s Hospital. She looked forward to her weekly bridge game with her friends, was an avid reader, and enjoyed boating, being near the ocean, and needlepoint. But most of all, she adored her grandchildren and was so proud to watch them grow in beautiful young adults.

Mary is survived by her brother Edward Godfrey of Cape Coral, FL and her children Edward and Diane Clerkin of Farmington, CT; Peter Clerkin and Karen Gioiella of East Windsor, CT; Mary Ann and Michael Pendergast of West Simsbury, CT; and Tom and Pam Clerkin of Saratoga, CA; and her grandchildren Patrick Clerkin of West Hartford, CT; Amanda Clerkin of Concord, MA; Megan and Ben Roberts of West Hartford, CT; Courtney Clerkin and James Engel of New Britain, CT; William Pendergast of West Simsbury, CT; and Connor Clerkin of Saratoga, CA and many loving nieces and nephews.
