Stephen W. Mulvey, Jr. of Rye, New York and Vero Beach, Florida passed away Wednesday evening, September 13, 2017 following complications from a stroke. Steve was born on December 18, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York to Stephen “Bud” and Patricia Mulvey. He was one of 6 children. His parents and grandparents were part owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers dating back to the Brooklyn Dodger days.
Steve graduated from The Iona Prep School in 1971 and attended Notre Dame. He remained an avid supporter and devoted fan to all Notre Dame Irish Sports. Steve was a very successful and accomplished business professional. He was involved in a number of business ventures during his early career such as Mulvey McKeever Exhibition Company, a family holding company formed in 1912, with substantial investments in the motion picture industry, major league baseball, golf, including Hudson National Golf Club, in Croton on Hudson, New York and the real estate industry. His most noted success was the formation of Pinnacle Golf and the development of Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida. His remarkable vision and leadership eventually led to the creation of 3 unique clubs that are respected throughout the golf and private club industry. The landscape was forever altered in Vero Beach back in 2001 when ground was broken on the Golf Club followed by the River Club in 2003 and The Pointe in 2016.
Outside of his professional life, Steve was either doing one of two things – supporting his wife Kathy with her golfing accomplishments or hunting/fishing. He was a lifelong member of Westchester Country Club where he and Kathy spent countless hours with their friends. In addition, Steve was also a proud member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and many organizations committed to balancing land conservancy and wildlife. He will deeply miss his friends at his beloved Cabin – The Wounded Bear Lodge in Long Eddy as well as the numerous sportsmen that he hunted with over the years.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy, his brothers Kevin Mulvey, Patrick Mulvey, James Mulvey and sister Keelyn Mulvey along with his beloved St. Bernard Truman. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Maripat Mulvey and his St. Bernard Humphrey. Steve was truly a renaissance man who was loyal to his family and friends, devoted husband and always looked forward to sharing a beer with friends and strangers. He was so grateful to everyone who took time to send him cards and letters along with those who visited him during his recovery and rehabilitation. He will undoubtedly be remembered for his Zest of Life!
