Obituary of Mary A. Mauder
Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mary A. Mauder died with family by her side on May 2, at her home in Port Chester, NY. Born in Springfield, MA, the youngest of 8 siblings, Mary was educated at Greenwich and Stamford High Schools before starting a fulfilling career in stage and summer stock productions. She performed across the country, using the stage name Mary Grace. She met her first husband, Walter Noble, while they were acting together at Summer Stock in Portland Me. Together they had a son, Michael Noble of New York, NY. After her first marriage ended in divorce, she moved to Stamford to be near family, where she met and married Jack G. Mauder, a successful Cadillac dealer and restaurateur. She was pre deceased by Mr. Mauder in 1992. That marriage resulted in a daughter, Jacqueline Mauder Jenkins (James), of Rye, NY, and a son, John Gates Mauder of Tequesta, FL. They raised their family in Pelham Manor, NY. Throughout the 1970's and '80's Mary used her business skills, love of sports and outgoing personality as the General Manager of the Mt. Vernon Indoor Tennis Center and subsequently Racquet Ball Fifth Avenue, in NYC. She was also very active at the New York Athletic Club, Travers Island, where she played tennis and volunteered much of her time and energy to the youth swim & tennis teams. She had many friends there and loved spending time with them on the courts and the dance floor.
Mamie, as she was known to many, especially her four grandchildren, Christopher Noble, Luke Jenkins, Nola Jenkins, and Verity Mauder, will be remembered for her huge smile, love of fun, and vivacious personality. She was a warm and loving mother and grandmother who adored her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was rarely seen without a poodle by her side and her love of dogs was only surpassed by their love for her. Mamie packed a lot of loyalty and feistiness into a tiny frame, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
