
Obituary of Br. William Damion Cronin CFC

Rev. Brother William Damian Cronin C.F.C. passed away on May 15, 2020 at the age of 82. Br. Cronin was born on October 20, 1937 in Mt. Vernon, NY, the son of Henry and Cecelia Manning Cronin. After graduating St. Catherine School in Pelham, NY and Blessed Sacrament High School in New Rochelle, NY, he went on to Iona College where he received a BA in French and St. Michael’s College graduating with a Masters in Religious Education.
Brother Cronin entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers on July 2, 1955 professing his final vows on June 27, 1963. His ministry took him to many schools including, Vancouver College, BC, St. Pius X High School, Montreal, Bishop Gibbons High School, Schenectady, Rice High School, Blessed Sacrament High School as Superior and Power Memorial Academy. From 1984 to 1990, Br. Cronin served in numerous communities in Peru. After returning to the USA, he continued his ministry at Essex Catholic High School and St. Patrick’s Parish, Newark. Br. Cronin’s other assignments included Coleman Catholic High School, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons High School, New Street Community, and Communidad Juan Diego and Guadalupe Regional Middle School, Brownsville. Most recently Brother Cronin was a member of St. Joseph’s Residence Community, New Rochelle, and died at the Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
Br. Cronin is survived by his brother Henry Cronin. He was predeceased by his parents and two siblings: John Cronin and Joanne Baches. Interment will be private at the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Joseph’s Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
