George Liney died peacefully in his sleep on January 3, 2021. He was 89. George was born on September 25,1931 in NYC. He was the only son of George Liney and Hildur Larsen . After his father's death, he moved to Mandal, Norway and lived with his family until 1951. He returned to NY at 20 years old and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1954 where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. That same year he was drafted into the US Army and for 2 years was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany. He earned an MBA at The University of Michigan in 1957. He married Pamela Valerie Jones in 1958 in Forest Hills at The Church in the Gardens.
He began his career with the accounting firm Ernst and Ernst while also studying for his CPA. George ended his varied and interesting international career with Sanofi/ Synthelabo of Paris, France for 13 years as VP/Finance at their US division in Tarrytown, NY.
George was a member of Shenorock Shore Club for 47 years where he and his extended family and friends spent many happy times. George loved fishing on the Long Island Sound and he explored the great fishing areas of Long Island, Montauk, and New England. He learned to fish in his beloved Norway and passed this passion on to his children and his grandson Brandon. He and Brandon went out on his boat together when he could no longer do it himself, and George was forever grateful for that.
George is survived by his wife Pamela, son Graham, daughters Jill and Janice; and their spouses and eight grandchildren: Brandon, Pilar, Jessica, Olivia, Esme, Rhys, Amanda and Hunter.
