
Obituary of Bernice Helene Gitenstein
Bernice Helene Gitenstein, a resident of White Plains, NY for over 33 years, formerly of Scarsdale and Harrison New York and New York City, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2021, at the age of 98. Bernice was born in New York City on August 29, 1922. She was the daughter of William and Ida Narins (nee Kovolsky). Bernice attended Hunter High School and went on to Hunter College where she earned a BA. Later she graduated from Columbia University, earning an MBA.
Bernice was married to Milton P. Gitenstein for 57 years. They had 4 children. She is predeceased by her husband, Milton P. Gitenstein who passed away on October 7, 1999; her daughter Deborah C. Brudno who passed away on July 7, 2010 at the age of 66 and her son Ross George Gitenstein who passed away on October 25, 1953 at the age of 6. She is survived by her daughter Judith A. Gitenstein of NY, NY, her son Henry J. Gitenstein (Harriett) of Scottsdale, AZ, and her grandchildren: Eric W. Gitenstein (Nicole) of Portland, Oregon, and Maxwell I. Gitenstein (Heine) of Oslo, Norway.
A graveside funeral service took place on August 12, 2021, at Montefiore Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, NY. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Bernice’s name to UJA – Federation of New York (www.ujafedny.org/donate).
