
Obituary of Br. Alexander Eugenio DeLorenzo CFC
A lover of books and reading, a travel enthusiast, and devotee of good liturgy, Brother Buddy Eugenio DeLorenzo passed into eternal life on September 11, 2021.
Buddy was born January 5, 1945 and grew up in Nutley, New Jersey. He was the eldest child of Alexander and Angelina. He is survived by Richard and Janice, Joan and Louis Bivona, Dennis and Shelly, 7 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and great nephews.
He entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers on July 6, 1963 after graduating from Nutley High School. He did his Novitiate at Mary Immaculate in Kortright, NY, spent a year at Saint Gabriel’s Junior College in Lakewood, NJ. and then graduated from Iona College in 1967.
Eugenio was missioned first to All Hallows Institute in the South Bronx for three years. He journeyed north to Rochester, NY and Bishop Kearny High School for the next nine years.
In 1982, Eugenio moved to Bishop Gibbons--Notre Dame High School in Schenectady, NY.
He spent most of the beginning of 1987 in Rome, Italy on the Brothers International Tertianship Renewal Program.
Director of Archives became his new assignment in 1988 when he moved to Saint Joseph’s Residence Community in New Rochelle, New York.
In 1996 he moved across New Rochelle to be the Superior of the Community at Blessed Sacrament-Saint Gabriel’s.
Promoter of the Cause of Edmund Rice’s Canonization was an added new job in 2003.
He moved to his final home at 125 East 103rd Street in East Harlem in 2006.
Teaching ESL and US Citizenship classes became part of his weekly routine. He was ready to move on from the Archives, and was even breaking in his replacement last week.
But . . .
Buddy was lover of books and reading, a travel enthusiast, and devotee of good liturgy.
