
Obituary of John Sherman
It is with great sadness that the family of John Peter Sherman, age 66, announces his passing on Thursday, November 25, 2021. Formerly of Rye, New York he was a resident of Stamford, Connecticut.
John was born on April 27, 1955 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Adlyn Foster and William Lawrence Sherman. He graduated with honors from Washington College where he was president of the student judiciary. He competed throughout the Northeast as captain and stroke of the men's varsity crew team. John traveled extensively in his twenty seven year career in finance, retiring in 2004 from UBS. He was a member of Westchester Country Club.
John had a love of the outdoors that was nurtured in his youth as a Boy Scout where he went on to achieve the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He loved fishing, golf, sailing, music, and art. He was known for his humor, strength and perseverance.
There was nothing more important to John than his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Woodward Sherman, his sons, John Peter Sherman, Jr., and Harry Woodward Sherman; his daughters-in-law, Sally Jackson Sherman and Michelle Miller Sherman; grandsons, Jackson McMahon Sherman and John Peter Sherman Ill; siblings William Lawrence Sherman, Jr., James Michael Sherman and Lynda Sherman Strand; seven nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Friends and family will be received at Graham Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM. A service in his honor will be held at Christ's Church in Rye, New York on December 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in John's memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to Stamford Hospital.
