Having Monk be a part of my life was a distinct honor and privilege. As a lacrosse defenseman, I have an understanding of the importance of Monk to our undefeated teams. As a fraternity brother, I have an understanding of the importance of Monk, his sense of humor and his views on life to our growth and values. He had a unique ability to summarize a thought or viewpoint in a few simple and usually witty words. We will all miss him so much.

Although I haven't seen Steve in many, many years, I was blessed to know him. As a young analyst with Texaco, he served as a true mentor for me. He always took the time to share his experiences and a kind and professional manner. I will be thinking of his family and of my personal memories.

Monk was one of the most decent, principled people I have ever known. He also had a wonderful sense of humor which he kept with him throughout his illness. My favorite line of his was "Keep the O'DOUL'S coming". I'm sure he is at a bar in Heaven watching a college Lacrosse game and having a cold O'DOUL'S
Rip Monk. You will be missed. I am grateful for having know you.

Any time you spent with Monk was an uplifting one. I so enjoyed the hundreds of hours we spent together on the paddle court. Never a bad day.
A true gentleman who will be greatly missed by all. My love and condolences to Betsy and is wonderful full family.

Monk was a great man, fun dad, and an important influence on me growing up with Brian. I'll always remember him coaching my Rye Little League and Rye Youth Soccer teams, summers at Manursing, taking us to the theater to see every sports movie that came out, and listening to his music on the jukebox in the Koch's basement. I am so glad he was able to dance at our wedding- he loved the band- and that he met my daughter Ellie (and proclaimed she would be a good athlete). Love to the Koch Family.

Monk was such a great guy: a gentleman, devoted to his family, very accomplished in his life and a self-effacing person.
Monk’s son Brian and my kid Nick are good friends, classmates (2005), and teammates on the lacrosse team.
I fondly remember all the conversations we had on lacrosse while watching the Rye games and playing golf. My brother lived in Baltimore and his kid played at St Pauls which added extra “color” to our lax chats on MIAA play.
He and Betsy brought up great kids who were terrific
athletes, fun to be around and always respectful of adults.
RIP Monk

Monk epitomized what it means to be a good neighbor. He was friendly and kind and funny. He was unfailingly helpful and generous with his time to anyone who needed him Although he was highly educated and successful, he was unassuming and humble. He put on no airs and never lost his Baltimore accent. He was a passionate fan of doo wop music and no other form of music. In all my years in Rye, I never ever heard anyone say anything but nice things about Monk and I never ever heard him say anything but nice things about everyone else. He was a very active athletic man and losing that to Parkinson’s must have been awful. Yet he never complained. He remained sunny and upbeat and the same person he had always been. Monk was a true gentleman and one of the people who makes the world worth living in. I know I am not alone in feeling bereft at his loss. I hope they have lacrosse in heaven Monk.
