Obituary of Beulah Aveta Chin
CHIN, BEULAH AVETA (nee Hue) Affectionately known as “Vete”, “Aunt Vete”, and always as beloved “Grammie”.
After a short illness, Vete died peacefully on March 9, 2023. Born April 26, 1924, in Rock River, Clarendon, Jamaica to the late Laurabelle Anderson and James Hue, Vete was predeceased by siblings Lucy, Sidney (Bibby), Lionel (Linny), and Evelyn (Ceta), and a daughter Arlene. Vete is survived by her loving family and devoted daughter Charmaine, Son-in-law Brian, Granddaughter Kim, Grandson-in-law Mark, Great-granddaughter Schuyler, many nieces, nephews and their families in the USA, Canada, and Jamaica.
Vete distinguished herself academically, winning a scholarship to Wolmer’s High School at a time when they were very rare, and went on to earn several diplomas and certificates in commercial training courses. She applied her considerable skills and strong work ethic over a long career as an executive secretary at Texaco, Inc., White Plains, NY
Known for her gentle smile and unwavering commitment to her Christian faith, Vete was that quiet force that could move mountains. Every challenge was met head on and she never focused on what she didn’t have, instead she celebrated life and all she had.
Vete was respected and admired by all. She helped many along the way, giving unconditionally and loving deeply. Although she will be missed, she will be in our hearts forever.
…think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched…for nothing loved is ever lost—and she was loved so much. - Ellen Brenneman
The family is deeply grateful to the staff and caregivers at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital and the Emerald Peek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peekskill, NY for their excellent compassionate care.
