Obituary of Eileen M. Gallagher
Eileen M. Gallagher, age 102, passed away on May 28, 2023, formally of Rye, New York. She was most recently a resident at Brighton Gardens of Stamford, CT. Eileen was born on September 1, 1920, in Minneapolis, MN. She attended St. Bridget’s and North High, Class of 1938. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Robert (April 1972), her parents, George and Mae Ritten, and her beloved siblings, Robert, Margaret, Geraldine, and George Jr. She is survived by her favorite son, Jerry (Judy), her granddaughter Katie Thomas (Brendan), great-grandchildren Ryan, Jack, and Sean, and grandsons Patrick (Katie), great-grandchildren Clare and John Robert, and Neal (Caroline) whose children will always feel Grandma G’s presence.
Eileen met Bob, the love of her life, in 10th grade. They were married in September 1941. She was fortunate to find love at an early age and was able to enjoy the fruits of that love every day of her life. After Bob’s enlistment in December of that year, she followed him through six Army camps throughout the country until his deployment to Okinawa. Upon his return, they lived in Richland, WA, Idaho Falls, ID, Pittsburgh, PA, and finally settled in Rye, NY in 1956. Eileen worked at American Can and James River and volunteered at the March of Dimes in White Plains. She kept up with her Club from North High for many years, was a St. Monica’s Mother’s Club member, a communicant at the Church of the Resurrection from 1956 to 2019, and the Rye Seniors.
Her family is truly grateful for all the kind and dedicated staff and caregivers at Brighton Gardens of Stamford. They were a tremendous help over the years and made her time there a rich experience.
