
Obituary of Br. Thomas Colman Higgins, CFC
Brother Thomas Colman Higgins CFC passed away on July 6,2023 at the age of 87. Brother Higgins was born on October 27, 1935, in the Bronx, NY, the son of Thomas and Teresa Coleman Higgins. Brother attended St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School and Cardinal Hayes High School and Saint Joseph's Juniorate. He studied at Iona College where he received a BA degree in French, and his MA from St. John’s University in Theology.
Brother Higgins entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers on September 13, 1950, and professed his final vows on June 27, 1961.
Brother's ministry took him to several schools including Holy Cross School, Newfoundland, St. Pius X High School, Montreal, Canada, Msgr. Farrell High School, Staten Island, Essex Catholic High School, Newark, NJ, Iona Prep, New Rochelle, Santa Maria Novitiate, West Park, and Rice High School, New York. Brother was most recently a member of the Brothers' community at St. Joseph's Residence, New Rochelle. With the late Br. Hanley, Br. Higgins was one of the founding members of the Christian Brothers Residence of St. Joseph's where he served on the staff from 1986 until his recent retirement. Brother was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Teresa Higgins and by his brother, James and sisters, Margaret Lynch, and Elaine Casey.
The family and the Christian Brothers will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home on Thursday, July 13, from 2:00 PM to 5 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, New Rochelle, NY, on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 9:30 AM.
Interment will be at the Christian Brothers' Cemetery in West Park, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Br. Higgins' memory to St. Joseph's Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY, 10804.
