Obituary of Maureen McGee Selvaggio
Maureen McGee Selvaggio passed away peacefully surrounded by love and family Friday July 28, 2023. The third daughter of Thomas and Adelaide Kirby McGee of Harrison, New York. Maureen celebrated family and always had an open door for unexpected guests or a long-lost family member. You could always count on “Reenie” for her ready smile, her willingness to help, whether it was to listen, give helpful advice, to sit with you, put your hair in curlers, give you a lift somewhere, or just to make sure you had your lipstick on.
A member of Harrison High School Class of 1966. While attending Harrison School she met her future husband John Selvaggio Jr. when she was 13 years old, which was the start of the lifelong romance. While married to John they had many great adventures, laughs, and involvements in community/youth sports activities. Maureen and John were like ying and yang. John was the avid skier and Maureen was the beach goer, but they both enjoyed spending time on the sports field sidelines.
Upon graduation she worked at AT&T for 10 years. After taking time off to be with her children she returned to work for Harrison Central School District for over 30 years, where she was the heart of the school in the main office of Parson Memorial Elementary School. Maureen was the “go to” person for it all. She loved to help everyone from parents to staff and faculty, and most of all the students.
Mother to Kelly and Kacey; “Mema” to Adelaide, Molly, and Lily Gabel. Reenie was the beloved Queen to many nieces and nephews. Maureen was extremely proud of her daughters and granddaughters. She took pride in all of their accomplishments. She was their biggest cheerleader. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader.
Maureen was predeceased by her beloved husband John R. Selvaggio Jr., Thomas and Adelaide Kirby McGee, and her grandmother Marion Kirby. Maureen is survived by her 5 siblings: Carol McGown (Jack), Paddi McGee, Kirby Candela (Ralph), Tom McGee (Suzie), John McGee (Noel). Her two daughters Kelly Gabel (Andy), Kacey Selvaggio, three jewels Adelaide, Molly and Lily Gabel, and by her lifelong best friend Linda Straface Marsico.
Maureen will be dearly missed. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday August 2, 2023, at St. Gregory the Great Church at 10 AM. Visitation will take place at Graham Funeral Home in Rye on Tuesday August 1, 2023, from 3:00 PM-8:00 PM.
