Obituary of LeRoy Ferguson Coulter
LeRoy Ferguson Coulter passed away peacefully on July 30th, 2023 surrounded by his immediate family at Greenwich Hospital in Greenwich, Connecticut.
The son of John Mansfield Coulter, Sr. and Louisa Ferguson Coulter, LeRoy (Roy) was born in the family’s ancestral home of Columbia, South Carolina on October 23, 1945. As an Air Force military family, he lived throughout the United States with his parents and brother, John Mansfield Coulter, Jr. Roy received his Bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. Roy was a dedicated, career Westinghouse employee, continuing through mergers with CBS and Viacom. He rose through the ranks from Audit/Finance to CFO of GroupW at Viacom. Roy’s work relocations took him to Europe (Germany/England), California, Pittsburgh, and New York City/Stamford – and further travel around the world.
Roy won the lottery in meeting his wife, Annette, 46 years ago in Washington, DC during a brief home visit to the United States. Roy and Annette, both living and working in Germany, dated for a few years before starting an exciting, love-filled 43 years of marriage. After a bareboat sailing honeymoon filled with adventure, they had several moves and made lifelong friends in California and Pittsburgh before settling down in White Plains, NY 22 years ago.
Roy lived his life for his family on both sides of the Atlantic. One of his favorite spots in the world was sitting on his mother-in-law’s porch, overlooking her backyard with a cold German beer in hand.
Roy and Annette never stopped creating memories together. Roy was a constant cheerleader at Annette’s sporting events and they were both long-time, active members of three USNA Parents Clubs. Roy always made time for family trips in the US and Europe, plus an unforgettable family bareboat sailing trip. Thanks to his unwavering positive attitude and the tireless efforts of his wife – Roy did not allow the progression of Parkinson’s Disease to dampen his spirit. He continued to tell jokes and bring joy to those around him at every opportunity.
Roy is survived by his wife Annette Coulter of White Plains, NY; sons William Coulter (Marta) of Tarrytown, NY, John Max Coulter (Christine) of Arvada, CO, and Marten Coulter (Natalie) of North Stonington, CT; and seven grandchildren (Nora, Sylvia, Lucas, Felix, Erin, Jack, Oscar).
A funeral service followed by a reception to celebrate Roy’s life will be held on August 12, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Rye Presbyterian Church, 882 Boston Post Rd, Rye, NY 10580. He will be interred on August 26 at 10 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia, SC 29201.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Rye Presbyterian Church.
